About Milan
Hello, and welcome to my practice.
I have had the privilege to work as a psychotherapist in private practice and as a counselor in public and private schools for more than 20 years. I love the field of psychology and am dedicated to supporting children, adolescents and adults through all stages of life.
I have a Master of Science degree in counseling psychology and am dually licensed as a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist (MFT), and as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). In addition to my private practice, I am a part-time counselor at Ecole Bilingue of Berkeley and have a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in school counseling. I am bilingual in English and French.
I am a husband and a father of two boys -- one a recent college graduate and the other a junior in college. I bring this life experience to my practice; it enhances my therapeutic work with children, adolescents and families.
Therapeutic Approach
----------------------------------------------------
My therapeutic approach draws on several methods to meet the unique needs of each client. These include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), client-centered therapy, psychodynamic theory, and mindfulness practices. I am certified in CBT through Dr. David Burns at Stanford University and the Feeling Good Institute. I am fortunate to also have had the opportunity to train in individual consultations with Dr. Irvin Yalom to learn his theory of Existential Psychology. Additionally, I am certified as a Running Therapist by the father of running therapy, Dr. Thaddeus Kostrubala.
A significant influence on my therapeutic approach comes from my experience as an ultra-endurance triathlete. Through participation in ultra-endurance events, I have realized the power of our minds and thoughts to shape our lives in profound ways (see more below). As exercise has done for me, I work with clients to help them develop or nurture interests and passions -- such as running, music, dance, art, writing, surfing, etc. -- that take them out of themselves and enhance their mental health.

One of my goals as a psychotherapist is to help my clients realize the incredible power of the mind, thoughts and beliefs to open the pathway to reaching their full potential.
I know this firsthand. I completed my first full Ironman Triathlon on July 29, 2018 in Zurich, Switzerland. This was something I never thought I would achieve. It was a life-changing event that taught me the infinite power of the mind to push past self-imposed limits and get in touch with the inner-strength that resides within each of us.
I use what I have learned to help my clients break through obstacles and achieve their objectives, whatever they may be!
Anything is Possible
--------------------------------------------------
The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward. -Amelia Earhart
